Hill 1 - Pride

You’ll hit this one feeling fresh, confident, and probably moving a little quicker than planned. Training has gone well. Legs feel great. You’re flying past people and thinking, “This isn’t so bad!” Pride comes before the fall — and Hill 1 is already quietly reminding you that the Forest has other plans. Set off too fast here and you’ll be humbled very soon.

Top tip: if you're worried about the amount of calories you've consumed over the xmas period, try running all the way up Hill 1! They will soon leave your body very quickly.

Hill 2 – Greed

You want more. More speed. More places gained. More glory. Hill 2 feeds that greed, tempting you to push harder than you should. Hill 1 felt like a long time ago and your legs are fresh again, you’ll chase runners ahead, ignore your breathing, and convince yourself it’s worth the effort. Then you suddenly find yourself on all fours scrambling up Hill 2....

Hill 3 – Sloth

The novelty has worn off. The festive food is making itself known. Hill 3 is where motivation dips and your legs start asking uncomfortable questions. Walking suddenly seems very reasonable. This is Sloth at its finest — the hill that whispers, “Just slow down… no one will notice.”

Hill 4 – Lust

By now, your mind is drifting to things you desire most: the finish line, dry socks, hot drinks… and that medal. Hill 4 is pure temptation. You’re not climbing for pride anymore - you’re climbing for what’s waiting at the end. Keep going. It will be worth it.

Hill 5 – Gluttony

This one arrives right when the Christmas excess hits hardest. Mince pies, chocolate, gravy, and festive drinks all come rushing back to haunt you. Hill 5 is where you question every life choice made since early December. The hill doesn’t care — it just keeps rising and zig-zagging, demanding payment in sweat. Even the water station just before you tackle this hill won't help it feel any easier.

Hill 6 – Wrath

This is where the anger kicks in. You've only just finished Hill 5 and you’re only on Hill 6, yet it feels like you’ve already done ten. The hill seems unfair. Personal. Endless. You’ll curse it, hate it, and possibly shout at it — but you’ll climb it anyway, even though somehow it just keep going. Wrath fuels you forward… even if it’s through gritted teeth.

Hill 7 – Envy

The final sin. You’ll spot runners who’ve already finished, hear cheers from ahead, and feel a powerful jealousy rise up. Why are they done and you’re still climbing? Hill 7 is cruel but unforgettable — the last test before you earn your finish. Push through, because soon enough, someone else will be envying you.
